Death to the instrumental
While cover songs work very well for the r&b artist, or the pop performer, it is very different for rappers. Tons of rappers now a days are still living in the instrumental phase. While it has been very well proven that mixtapes for rappers are transitioning into original mixes. It was a dreaded day in hip hop the second the first song dropped with a rapper over another rappers beat. Besides the fact that you would be totally original, what are some other key things that make being on original music production so much better.
Original music promotion is more profitable
There is nothing more profitable than original material. When you come up with something and it is all yours, you brand it, you market it, you promote it, and all of the profits that come from it are yours to keep. When you do things the right way the profits are always greater. Original music production is the best route to go when working on a new project, or single.
Every rapper on earth wants to make money off their music, but how can you if you are on production that has already made it to the mainstream. Who will call you to perform, and better yet who will buy it? The answer is obvious, and the answer is evident. You need original production in order to get ahead in the music industry. Instrumentals just will not get you where you want to go.
Original music promotion is more marketable
When it comes down to marketing your music you have a million and one avenues to use. Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and a whole lot more are always great choices. Still, without the original production behind your music, you will end up at a dead end. People will surely listen, and you may even end up with over 1 million views. However, you this will not help you at all, the right people will not want to book you.
I see this time and time again. A rapper hits me up on twitter and says yo check out my "Famous Song" remix. Reluctantly I listen because I am a music producer and I love to hear independent music, but where will me listening to this song get this artists? It will get them nowhere, a whole load of views is not a guarantee, despite all of the hype, there will be a million more rappers with a million views right with you.
Copyrights are important
So lets say you drop a song on a Lil Wayne instrumental tomorrow. You promote it for weeks, and weeks, and get loads of plays built up. Then as you least expect it the latest song comes out and you hear some similar lyrics that are so close to yours its ridiculous. No matter what you have no leg to stand on because you dropped your song on an instrumental and could not even copyright it.
Had you been on original production and followed the correct procedures, you would be in a whole lot better position. You could first be able to copyright your material and protect it from theft. Secondly you would be able to take your marketing to a higher level, and promote it in way more places. This is always the best route to take whenever you decide to put together a record.
In conclusion, there are tons of benefits that come from using original production behind your music. You never want to be caught off guard in this dirty game. Find yourself a great producer if you don't already have one and make good use of the tracks that they are making. If your producer's quality is not up to par you may also want to find a better one, because having original production means nothing if its not quality.
Thank you for reading if you made it this far.

I really like this post. You have a good understanding of how music works and are clearly wise. I agree with you that without a doubt, original music is and always will be better and more profitable. The 'new' is what excites people.
