“The
independent music industry is filled with talented artists. Some of
whom may have the talent to take their career to unimaginable
heights. Today we will be taking a look at a recording artist by the
name of 'Young Polo'. My opinion as well as the opinions of a few of
my professional colleagues will be featured in this review.”
The
art of rap is a gift and a curse. Those who are blessed with the gift
are cursed with the ridicule. Constant comparisons to those great
artists that came before. To stand the test of time is to prove that
you are worth the extra effort exerted to type your name in on a
search engine, download, purchase, or add your record to a play list
of long time favorites. Very few artists can stand the test of time
in today's music industry.
As I
listen to 'Young Polo' I hear something that many of the greats had.
I hear charisma and great character. I hear an artist with the
ability to create life changing music, if he so chooses to do so. The
record 'NBA Balling' however is not a perfect example of his full
capabilities as an artist. This song is great on many levels, but
does not stand out from the crowd in the way that it should for what
it is.
== Lyrics ==
[Overall
Lyrical Rating 6/10] – Lyrically 'Young Polo' proves
one thing and one thing only, he knows how to rap and can do it very
well. This song is by no means a demonstration of metaphorical bliss,
and that's not to say all songs should be, just felt the need to
mention. He does however manage to keep a good line of interesting
lyrical content that will not bore you to death, and should serve the
intended purpose of getting party goers everywhere out of their seats
and on to the dance floor.
== Originality ==
[Overall
Originality Rating 5/10] – In terms of originality I would
have to say, I have heard this song over and over again. I don't
think I can name one artist in the game that has not made a flashy,
ballin' record in their career. What this song is missing is that
original and innovative touch. Take for instance the creation of
'Bling Bling' by Cash Money or 'Make Em Say Uhhh' by No Limit. They
were both flashy records but with an innovative twist. This is one
thing that this record is definitely missing.
== Production ==
[Overall
Production Rating 8/10] – The overall quality of this
record is fantastic. The dynamics are on point, and the background
music is stellar. The engineer and the record producer both put in
quality work, and lets not give them all of the credit, the artist
did his job by creating quality workable vocals as well. No
complaints about the record on this side of things.
== Relate-ability ==
[Overall
Relate-ability Rating 4/10] – Very few things were said on
this record that the average person in today's society could really
relate to. The score of four itself stems from the fact that there
are records like this that have proven themselves to make it out of
the fire pits and into the mix. Other than that the record speaks
about a ton of things way above most peoples living standards and
tons more things people don't think, say or do. It could have
definitely used slight down to earth touch.
== Radio Rating
Bonus ==
After
1 week up on Independent Hip Hop Radio Station IBFU Radio, 'NBA
Ballin' received zero interaction from the fans and ended with an
overall rating of 2.5 stars out of a possible 5 star rating.
== Closing ==
As I do with all reviews we exit on this question. Had I
been approached by 'Young Polo' in the streets of New York and asked
to purchase a copy of his record would I? YES! I would. Despite the
low ratings in this review make no mistake, this kid is bursting with
talent. His energetic approach to creating music is darn right
addictive, but it is my job to look deeper than the surface. I dug up
a whole lot of dirt, but I also dug heaps of talent and potential.
== Professional
Opinions ==
Record
Producer Adam “Akhordz” Williams had this to say;
“I
give the song NBA ballin a 3 of 5 rank its a song that is good for
the club and for the people with the money to blow. My opinion is it
could use more creativity on the hook and better lyrical content but
overall its a pass “
While
a fellow recording artist Steven Orgas said;
“First
and foremost, the sound quality is great! It allows me to listen and
really feel the dynamics of the beat. Which is something I can
definitely bounce too. The hook is catchy and the flow is on point. I
LIKE IT...ITS FUN AND MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!! Should be played on ESPN
NBA highlights!!”
