Here we are once again on a journey through sound and lyrics. This is something that I experience day in and day out. Music is my life, and I love to live it. Today my life of music has led me to the jazzy, abstract, and ever so oblique sounds of Finesse's "Ultima Thule" mixtape, which can be listened to on his official website styleinthaskill.com.
One might say that the revolutionary lyrics featured on "Ultima Thule" are somewhat against the grain and not of the kind of music we have learned to love today. I say that they are what we have been missing. An affirmation that hip hop as we knew it yesterday still has a breath to give. Lyrically this mixtape features deep rooted lyrical content not prepared for the puny stomach of the ignorant mind.
Originality is not a weak point for Finesse. He seems to strive very well in that aspect of creating music. In fact I don't think I have heard anything this original in quite a while. With a little bit of work on his delivery Finesse can and will reach a massive amount of people with his music, as it is sure to spread like a virus through the airwaves of the music industry.
Production is another achilles heel for this young and blooming artist. Composition wise he seems to have a collection of rap beats from some of the finest producers around the world, but on the recording side of the production phase he has a lot of obstacles to overcome. Although being a self engineered artist is not something you see everyday, it could be hurting him more han he knows.
Now for the end of the review... the par that we all wait for. If I were to be approached by Finesse in the streets and asked to purchase this music; would I? Yes, because it has a message that I feel every young stagnant mind in the world should take note of. Finesse will definitely be here in the future, and I hope that my ears catch every single beat.
