Today I am writing a review of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana native Eddie Starks Power Move mixtape. Released last month March 25 on Datpiff, this mixtape is already close to 2,000 views and counting. As we all know it is not an easy task taking your music to the top being an independent artist. Sometimes its issues with quality. Other times its issues with promotion, and marketing. At the moment Eddie Starks seems to have very little issues with either. The quality of this mixtape is outstanding and as for promotion very little is needed, I am sure this will be one of those mixtapes all listeners will want to share with their friends.
This Power Move mixtape is loaded with a variety of different styles. With the single "I'm Jiggin, I'm Leanin" locked, loaded and ready to kill the club scene, or songs for the ladies to rock to like "Do It Again" where Eddie Starks and Meloboy reassure the ladies that round two is never out of the question. Of course Eddie could never forget to drop some of his knowledge on the world with tracks like "Part of the Game" where he drops jewels like "The money gone come and the money gone go / but my n@#ga that's a part of the game, and them b@%ches gone run when your funds get low / but believe me thats a part of the game, just remember don't change while you stackin yo change / cause my n@#ga that's a part of the game, so don't ever complain.". Despite the totally different topic matters Eddie Starks manages to give his all on every single track.
Proving his versatility to be one of his best attributes he bangs street heaters such as "I Luv Money" where he suggests that he is to be wed to money, and a brick would be the best man. He also manages to throw in some of his Louisiana roots with the southern fried hit "Down Here" featuring his fellow Louisiana emcee Kevin Gates. Even after all of that he still manages to go back to dropping sensible and knowledgeable music like the classic life struggle music on "Yeah" where he spits lyrical bars and gives the world a little piece of Eddie Starks life and struggle.
Altogether the collection of records on Power Move don't just make up another independent mixtape with your everyday type of quality and conviction. It is evident that Eddie Starks put 110 percent work plus another 90 percent more of a perfectionist attitude into this mixtape.
